Chapter Seven — Settling In
Day 2 the mattress pad arrived, and we immediately added that to the top of the mattress. It helped a little, but it wasn’t the greatest. Eventually, we ordered an air mattress. That was another story for later.
Sweetie was happy to have a radio in the trailer so he could listen to his sports station. Then we found out it not only doesn’t work, it wouldn’t show the correct time. It turns on, but we can’t get any stations! We get them in the car, but not on this radio.
We knew there wasn’t a TV, but forgot we had no internet either other than what was on our phones. J&J brought their TV over so we could at least watch something. We don’t get the basic channels of CBS, NBC, or ABC, but no internet was an issue. We trekked over to Verizon to see what they could provide. We wound up with a home internet plan. It’ll do for now. But we miss watching football and will miss our favorite shows if they start before we move. We watch the nightly new on my iPad. I keep telling myself, “this is all temporary.”
One night while cooking dinner, the smoke alarm went off! I was surprised because it didn’t seem very smoky in here. We opened the door, turned on the fan and started fanning the alarm til it shut off. Then I announced, “Dinner must be ready!” They say dinner’s ready when the smoke alarm goes off! LOL
I took the first shower in the trailer. The water was like a slow stream, not even enough to spray! It was like taking a shower under your kitchen faucet (which probably had more pressure than that!).
We were gone for the day, and came home to find a large puddle of water streaming out from under the camper. What? We have a leak?! A few of the guys from the campground came over to investigate, and it seemed it was coming from the bathroom…most likely the shower! We were glad it wasn’t the toilet!!
We called Ty and he came out to take a look. The underbelly of the trailer was sagging from all the water, but he said it would not be an issue IN the trailer, and that it was under warranty and they could fix that. But there’s the problem of us not being able to take it back to the dealer for the repair. He said it could keep til we’re done camping.
Ty tried to fix the radio. It worked for a few minutes, but shortly after he left, boom, it was out again, and has been out ever since. Great. New trailer and things don’t work. We’d have to bring it in for service, but can’t tow it with our car. So we do without.
