Chapter Ten — Nighttime Concerto

One night, when we came “home” and parked the car, as I exited on the swimming hole side, a very loud sound scared the bejeebees out of me. I exclaimed, “What is THAT?!” Sweetie said, “that’s a bullfrog!” I guess I was never that close to a bullfrog before. So ok, there are frogs in the ponds. No problem. Um, yeah.

The first few nights were quiet. Then the concert began. Not one bullfrog, but several. I layed in bed thinking “what does that sound like?” And it came to me…a low note on a cello…repeated over and over and over again. Some frogs played a different note, sometimes in conjunction with the other frogs. At first it was interesting to listen to. Then it became annoying because it was bedtime for us, but they were just warming up. And the band played on… all night long! Every night!

Sometimes we had a singer…a lonely owl who would hoot to the music.

I, who wear hearing aids in the daytime to hear, had to resort to earplugs to drown them out at night. They were THAT loud!

Oh, the music of the night!
