Chapter Two — The Search
So we went shopping for a camper. We didn’t want to spend a lot of money, but also didn’t want to be uncomfortable for the next 4 months. Our salesman, (I’ll call him Ty) showed us quite a few pre-owned campers. I’d be ok with one, then Sweetie was not. Or he’d like one that I didn’t. We saw one I liked, but when we left the dealership, Sweetie said “there were stains on the ceiling. They had a leak.” So he caught things I didn’t. I was looking at aesthetics, he was looking at structure and function.
We always agreed, even during house hunting, that if either of us didn’t like what we were looking at, for whatever reason, it was off the table. We worked well together on that idea.
Then Ty showed us a few new ones. Of COURSE, we really liked the new ones. They were all fresh and clean. Even though it was more than we wanted to spend, we hoped to be able to sell it after our house was done and recoup some of our money…unlike having to shell out $16,000 on rent that we would never recoup.
So we bought a 29’ Puma. We spent more than the $16,000, but we were getting somewhat desperate to find a place to live for the next four months.
It has everything we needed and a few things we didn’t. It has a kitchen, stove, fridge & freezer, microwave, big pantry, table and bench seats, bathroom, shower, queen size bed, and even two nice chairs, like recliners. It has lots of storage, even under the bed and under the dining area seats! The table even converts to another sleeping area, but we probably won’t need to do that. It has a radio, hookup for a TV, and several charging plug-ins.
We didn’t need a fireplace (or so we thought) or an outdoor built-in grill and mini fridge, but hey, we weren’t going to complain about extras. The downside is that the bathroom and bedroom are small, but really, how much time do you spend in those rooms? The living area was quite comfortable. And the two chairs turned out to be recliners! They don’t recline actually, but have footrests. Bonus!
Yay! “Housing” has been decided upon!
