Chapter Twenty Four — The End of the Line

We are coming in to the home stretch. It’s August 25 as of this writing. The house was promised September 15. It is coming along. We will have survived about four months in our “tin can” as Sweetie calls it. We can really appreciate people who live in a ”tiny house.” (Frankly, we think they’re nuts.)

The “For Sale” signs are up on the camper. We are hoping for a buyer and plan to be out of here on September 11. We will not miss this place. There are hardly any people up here during the week. When Cissy said it was very quiet, she wasn’t kidding. (Well, except for the trains, frogs, and trucks that go by on the nearby highway.) It was almost too quiet. We had little to do. Sweetie had even less. I, at least, had my cross stitch. But he’s used to tinkering in the garage.

We are anxious to be in our own home. And I can pretty much guarantee that our next camping adventure will be at the Holiday Inn!!

September 10, 2023

Today was spent packing up the rest of the stuff and taking the last of it to storage. We’re packing up for the hotel and will stay one more night here (ugh) and tomorrow we celebrate! Well, the big celebration is on September 15, 2023, when we close on our new home.

Washer and dryer will be delivered on Saturday, the 16th, and the movers will come on Monday. Then the next chapter of our life will begin. But that’s where THIS story ends. What a ride. Not an adventure we recommend for anyone, let alone two old farts.

The day before we were going to move the tin can back to Terry’s for repairs, we got an offer on it! We explained what it needed, but J was fine with all that. We went a little lower on our price than I would have liked, but Sweetie’s comment was “a bird in the hand…” So we canceled the move with Ty, and signed the Bill of Sale on the picnic table. By this time, we were all moved out and were just able to walk away with check in hand. That was a huge load off our minds!

So we checked in to the Holiday Inn all set for a restful week. Instead, I got sick. I had a sinus infection and wound up at Immediate Care. There went my week of floating in the pool and relaxing in the hot tub. Instead, I slept a lot. It was the beginning of five weeks of congestion and two visits to the doctor. Ugh.

On Friday, the 15th, we had our walk-through on the house, and went to the closing. It all went without a hitch. We were once again homeowners!

The washer and dryer didn’t arrive until Tuesday (the day after the movers arrived),so I was a little ticked about that. I had hoped to get laundry done before the movers came, but it was not to be so.

Even though the house was ours, furniture and the eight million boxes weren’t coming until Monday, so we spent two more nights at the Holiday Inn.
