Chapter Twenty-One — Go Back to Disneyland!

Our worst nightmare happened. Sweetie saw a mouse! Oh, no!! It ran into the pantry. Double OH NO!! It was bound to happen. We’d heard all the other neighbors were having issues with mice (though only K mentioned it to us…no one else admitted that.) Unfortunately, we had to wait til the next morning to go out and get some traps. We set them and they’d snap before we placed them. Ugh. One even caught my two fingers. Ow!! Those hurt! I guess they’re meant to be a quick kill. We carefully got two set in the pantry, one in the bathroom and another in the corner of the living room. Come get your peanut butter!

Sure enough, the next morning, there was a little mouse in the pantry. But you know what they say, “where there’s one there are.” However, in finding this little guy, we discovered a mammoth hole in the back wall of the pantry!! 

Well, no wonder they were coming in! The next day, we caught another mouse, but he lived, and he fell down in the hole, trap and all. Great. If he dies in there, this camper will stink to high heaven! We heard him rustling around in wherever he went, and later that day, we found he had worked his way into the bathroom cabinet, dragging the trap with him!! What?! THEN we discovered another large hole where the pipes go. Nothing was ever sealed!!

We used Sweetie’s grabber to grab the trap and Mickey, and Sweetie took him outside to enjoy the forest across the gravel road. Hope he didn’t suffer long, though I’m sure he became a tasty meal for some other critter.

So we emptied out the cabinet and found mouse presents on the shelf. Gross. We got all that cleaned up and Sweetie and I crunched up some aluminum foil and he duct taped it closed. Since then we’ve had no more mice. But we discovered where they had been hanging out. We also found mouse droppings in the silverware drawer!! Triple OH NO!!! I took everything out and soaked it in hot water, Dawn and some bleach. We had to wash everything out, including the vacuum cleaner!!

Mickey, go back to Disneyland, and take Minnie with you!!
